I am one-week-old today
Thank you Lord for being with Daddy, Mommy and myself during my birth. We could feel Your presence in the delivery suite and we know that it was You that took us through that wonderful journey.
Thank you Yeye and Nainai for looking after me and mommy, making yummy confinment food for Mommy and cleaning the house and washing my clothes.
Thank you “Taipo”, Granduncles, Grandaunties, Uncles, Aunties, Friends of Mommy and Daddy for your prayers, well wishes, visitations and gifts. I am very blessed indeed.
These are some of the things I did in my one-week into this world:-
-
I smile when I hear the word JESUS in Praise & Worship music
-
My neck is really quite strong. I try and keep a straight neck and back when being burped. However, I’ll slump forward when I’m tired. Ye Ye is quite amused by this.
-
I am beginning to tell the difference between day and night. Which is great for Mommy so I wake up less frequently for feeds during the night. I have just managed to wake up every 3 hourly – which is not bad right?
-
Nai Nai reckons I can recognise who looks after me at what time? Morning is with mommy and daddy is with mommy and daddy, afternoons are with nai nai and evenings are with Ye Ye. It seems that I settle whenever they carry me at the respective times. Haha
-
Ye Ye exercises my limbs daily and he trains my eyes to look left, right and straight. Nice work Ye Ye!
Po Po and Yee Yee are coming to visit me soon (8 days) … whee! Kong Kong might come if he is able to get tickets. God Grandma will come too, perhaps in mid March. Yipetty Yea!

My Journey into this world
I am 14 days overdue on 21st February 2008 and both mommy and daddy are getting a little anxious wondering when I was gonna arrive. (ok, a little anxious was an understatement). Mommy woke up with bloody discharge at 5am that morning and boy you should have seen her grin (something is happening, woo hoo). Daddy go so excited that he told his boss he was gonna work from home that day. Mommy was due for an induction later on in the evening anyways but she is hoping that the contractions might start by themselves.
So, throughout the day, Mommy was wondering how contractions felt like. Finally, she left for the hospital at 5.45pm to be induced. At 7pm, Mommy and Daddy were informed that Mommy was already 3cm dilated and that she could skip the prostaglandin gel. So, her water bag was burst and she was put on the drip to speed up the contractions .. hmmz, could I be born on 21st Feb?
Just before midnight, Mommy was still not dilated enough so she asked for some gas and pethadine to help her through her contractions which were beginning to hurt. (Ok, she will never ask how a contraction feels like ever again). By early Friday morning (22nd Feb), Mommy transited into the 2nd stage of labour and was ready to PUSH. Push she did but somehow the contractions were a little mucked up. They were coming so fast that she did not have time to rest in between and by the time the obstetrician arrived, the urge to push was not as strong, and mommy had already been pushing for more than an hour. I on the other hand was getting distressed because I was in the position for so long. The midwives and daddy could see my head already but poor mommy was soooo exhausted from her pushing.
Finally, Dr Ravi arrived and he said that he was going to help mommy get me out by using the suction cup. I (Kate Sarah Chan) was born at 10.03am on 22nd February 2008 (Friday) weighing 7.7 lbs (3.37kg) and measuring 49cm in length. My size surprised both Daddy and Mommy (Mommy was not expecting anything more than 7 lbs .. haha)
Daddy looked after me for the next few hours while Dr Ravi delivered Mommy’s placenta and stitched her up!

Peace of God
Thank God for sending good friends and loved ones to encourage us when we need it most. I am trying not to be anxious as baby is 8 days overdue, but as all who have gone through it can attest, it is easier said than done.
A very dear friend P came to visit me at home this morning and she prayed for me, for me to have the absolute peace of God, and to agree together with me for baby to come by this weekend, and to also encourage me to read and memorize Scriptures of peace. Indeed, this is the time to deposit the Word of God in our hearts as we might be too busy and distracted when the baby comes.
Thank you to all my loved ones (Dear, both sets of grandparents, siblings, cousins, uncles, aunts, friends) for praying for baby, Ken and myself. For your encouragement, assurance and reminder that we serve a great God and He cares and He will bring about the miracle childbirth in His perfect timing. Thank you for all the practical help offered and also the emotional support offered when I start whining at times .. haha
God bless you all. Love ya all

After a yummy brunch, we decided to walk some of it off at Chaddy … good indoor excercise .. went to Borders to read some mags .. hehe … and walked some more and headed home

Thank you Lord for granting Ken, baby and I this beautiful and fruitful day .. love it .. love it .. love it
Baby, is this what you have been waiting for? To spend quality time with both Daddy and Mommy? Daddy and Mommy are so looking forward to your arrival so we can hug you, kiss you, cuddle you, look into your eyes adoringly and lovingly, and go on outings with you, bring you in church, bring you up in the ways of our Lord!

Come Baby Come
My ob/gyn actually seemed more anxious than I was at my antenatal checkup this morning. I am 5 days past my due date and still waiting. He arranged for me to go to the hospital this Thursday (41 weeks of my pregnancy) for fetal heartbeat monitoring and again on 18th Feb if the baby has not arrived by then. After that, I will go and see him at the clinic and get an internal exam and then discuss ways of induction .. no no no induction for me
I think daddy no mood to go to work already … he is waiting anxiously for baby to come.
Baby’s nai nai is also waiting anxiously for baby to come else she will not be able to do a full 30 day confinement for mommy if baby comes any later.
Baby’s ye ye will be arriving in 2 days .. perhaps baby is waiting for ye ye .. haha
Mommy is so ready for you to come baby, wanna see your beautiful face, long to hold you in my arms and cuddle you ..
Baby’s poh poh and God grandma, aunts, uncles, daddy and mommy’s frens are all waiting to see you and welcome you into this world
Lord, when is the perfect timing? is it going to be today? tomorrow? thursday? friday? Please let it be soon and let my labour process start naturally. Baby tune in to the contractions and start descending further down the pelvis ok? We are all waiting to see our little darling!

Is the tummy meant to feel like this??
As usual, I woke up 3 hours after I have fallen asleep. Now that I am 39 weeks and 6 days pregnant, I tend to visit the loo rather frequently during the night. Yesterday night, my tummy felt really tight, it was almost as if the uterus got lifted up and the feeling was really uncomfortable just under my ribs. Hmmz .. is the stomach being squashed or is baby stretching so much?
Anyways, I felt better after releasing the contents from the bladder and got some “wind” out of the tummy .. haha … interestingly, the tummy continued to stay really hard and tight .. hmmz .. is this contractions? nah .. I don’t think so .. it did not start from the top of uterus and move downwards ..alright, let’s wait and see what happens .. nothing much, just the same tight feeling the whole morning .. I finally woke up around 10am and kinda panicked coz I did not sense baby moving … said a little prayer and the little darling squirmed a little just to assure mommy … good baby! Thank you Lord for answering my prayer : )
Went out to the shops with my mother-in-law in the early afternoon and tummy felt a lot better. Everything should be fine as long as baby moves every 2 hours … I so wanna wash some baby singlets which I just bought but so tired feel like napping before going for reunion dinner at Ken’s uncle’s place tonight .. hmmz ..

Babies don’t fart in utero
Babies neither fart or burp in utero coz those are caused by gas and and babies do not take in any air to cause gas in their digestive system (they do not start breathing until they are born). OK, this is what I learnt at my antenatal checkup last week .. well, at least the question made my ob/gyn smile .. haha
Had a very pleasant surprise in church today. Woke up this morning and felt God saying that I will receive something special from Him this morning. How true. Just before the speaker came on, the senor pastor saw me in the congregation and asked for the entire congregation to pray for baby’s upcoming birthday! Pastor Roland together with the congregation prayed for safe delivery of baby, that baby will be normal and healthy and a painless childbirth for me. I receive these prayers in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Praise the Lord!
