Recognition of words
Sunday 26 February 2012
Kate surprised me today by recognizing these two words. I wrote them out with the intention of teaching her how to recognise them and I was so pleasantly surprised when she told me what they were.
Yes, DADDY AND MUMMY! I was such a proud parent right then when she told me what those words were.
She is also showing a lot more interest in reading. In the past, she just wanted to know the story but now she is more receptive when I read slowly while encouraing her to recognize the words. Noticed how frusrated she was at times when she could not read, so I explained that she should learn to read so that she does not have to depend on others to read for her. How nice it would be if she could pick up a book and read it herself. She loved that idea. I am introducing “reading eggs” while the interest is there .. so far so good : )
Kate is also quite interested in Mandarin, she enjoys watching Chinese DVDs for children, singing Chinese songs and the other day thanked me in mandarin. Hmmz … hen hao : )
Now I need to spend more time revising with her. She even needs to practice tunes for her Mini Maestro .. haha
Next Year vs Next Week
Monday 13 February 2012
This was the conversation between myself and one of the carers when I picked Kate up from childcare
Carer (looking very concerned): Hi Evelyn. Kate told us that she will be going to another childcare next week. Is that true?
Me: No
Carer: Oh, I thought so. One of Kate’s friends told her that if she was changing childcare, she was going to change too.
Me (smiled): I was telling Kate that she will be going to prep next year. She asked if it would be in the same school (childcare), and I explained it would be different. So, she must have been a little confused
At dinnertime, I was relating the incident to my inlaws when Kate said “I said next year, not next week”
Hmmz … who is right? Kate or carer .. haha
Say Thank You
Sunday 5 February 2012
This was Kate’s request for breakfast this morning.
- a half-boiled egg with maggi sauce
- bread with butter, ham and cucumber (with crusts removed)
Mummy had prepared the sandwich and was getting the egg ready when Kate brought the bottle of maggi sauce out of the pantry.
Kate: Here is the sauce Mummy
Mummy: OK
Kate: Say Thank You
Mummy: *gulps* Oh, Thank You
Well, at least you know they are learning the manners taught to them .. LOL
She ended up eating the crusts as well. She said she was using them as egg soldiers and she did : )
Kate goes to Chinese School
Saturday 4 February 2012
Kate went to Chinese School and so did Daddy and Mummy. We learnt some new words too .. haha
Kate enjoyed herself very much. She loved the activities and made new friends – so did Daddy and Mummy .. haha.
The teacher was very impressed with her colouring and counting skills. Hehe. Thanks Ye Ye and Nai Nai for teaching her colours and counting. Your efforts have not gone to waste. Kate counted from one to ten without our prompting – we just need to work on the accent .. LOL. At asembly time, the children learnt about Chinese New Year (a new song, some of its significance – I did not know the important days of CNY (1, 7, 9, 15), received an ang pow from the principal for greeting her).
We have homework – practice writing …. haha
We will be back next week .. hee
A ride home in Lachlan’s “car”
We got home and saw our neighbours chilling on your front lawn. So we walked over to greet them - Kate wanted to say Hi to Lachlan (same age). Lachlan was driving around in his toy jeep when his Dad asked him to take Kate on a date. LOL. So, he offered to drive Kate back to our house (which is like 10 meters away). Kate wanted to hold my hand the entire way – if only she would let go of it, I could have taken a pic. Oh well, she enjoyed her ride very much and wanted to go back for more. Lachlan drives very well, if I might add. Look at him reverse out of our doorway and back to his place. Haha.
You sound just like me!
Friday 3 February 2012
I was watching a TV program and unconsciously scratching my fingers.
Kate: Mummy, is that eczema (pointing at my fingers)
Me: Erm, I think so
Kate: Then you have to stop scratching, go upstairs and put on your cream (in a Mum tone, just like how I would speak to her)
Me: (burst out laughing)
Kate: Why are you laughing
Me: Because you sound just like me Darling
Kate: (smiles)
